Algiers [Algeria], March 4: Algeria and Italy discussed expanding cooperation across multiple sectors on Monday during a visit of Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani to Algiers.
Following talks with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Tajani emphasized the "very strong" ties between the two nations and their commitment to deepening political, economic, and cultural relations.
He noted that discussions covered regional stability, efforts to combat human trafficking, and upcoming meetings between the two governments, including a ministerial session of the 5+5 Defense Group. He also announced the establishment of a permanent coordination mechanism between the countries' foreign ministries.
Tajani highlighted Italy's interest in investing in Algeria's energy, infrastructure, construction, and agricultural industries, stressing the need to diversify Italian investments, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing.
Earlier in the day, he met with several Algerian ministers and business leaders to explore investment opportunities. Algeria's Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab reiterated the country's openness to foreign investment, calling Algeria a "large workshop" for major projects.
Arkab also underscored Algeria's strategic role in the energy sector and the ongoing development of an electricity interconnection project with Italy. Reaffirming Italy as a key partner, he invited Italian investors to seize opportunities across all sectors.
