Brazil's Lula recovering after brain haemorrhage

Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], December 11: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is being treated in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage, the Sírio-Libanes Hospital in the capital Brasília announced on Tuesday.
It said the 79-year-old was examined on Monday evening after experiencing headaches. Scans later revealed a brain haemorrhage, caused by a head injury on October 19.
The president was transferred to another unit of the hospital in Sao Paulo, where he underwent surgery to drain the haematoma, the hospital said. It said the operation went smoothly and the president is recovering in the intensive care unit.
Lula cancelled his attendance at the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan in late October due to a head injury.The private Sírio-Libanes Hospital, founded in 1965 by members of the Syrian-Lebanese community, is considered one of the most prestigious in Latin America. (DPA)
