Apr 12, 2024

Prague [Czech], April 12: A Czech court in Brno on Thursday sentenced a man to more than 10 years in prison for pushing a German tourist off the wall at Spilberk Castle, a hilltop fortification and tourist destination in the city, the CTK news agency reported.
The 37-year-old man, who was celebrating his bachelor's party with friends and relatives at the beginning of September last year when the attack took place, will also have to pay damages to his victim equivalent to around $16,000. The man has leave to appeal.
The court heard that he had spoken to his victim, who was sitting on the wall while phoning his parents. He pushed his victim, who fell some six metres, breaking two vertebrae and bruising his back.
Presiding judge Martin VrbĂk described the crime as an "expression of arrogance and lack of respect for the life of another and completely unprovoked."
