EU expresses concern over attempt to disturb constitutional order in Sierra Leone

Nov 27, 2023

Sierra Leone [West Africa], November 27: The European Union's delegation to Sierra Leone on Sunday expressed concern over the attempt to break into military barracks in the country and urged people to follow the curfew imposed by the authorities in response to the incident.
"EU is concerned about news from Sierra Leone. EU calls for constitutional order to be respected. There is no justification for forceful seizure of military barracks. We strongly encourage everyone to follow the ongoing curfew. EU will continue to support all those dedicated to a peaceful and democratic Sierra Leone," the delegation wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Earlier in the day, Sierra Leone's information ministry said that the country had imposed a nationwide curfew due to an attempt by unknown persons to break into an arms depot in the suburbs of the country's capital, Freetown.
The ministry also said that the government was in full control of the situation and recommended citizens to stay at home.
Later on Sunday, the Economic Community of West African States, which Sierra Leone is a member of, condemned the attempt to "disturb the peace and constitutional order" in the country. (Agencies)
