Kathmandu [Nepal], October 9: Nepali officials said on Tuesday that five Russian climbers have been found dead on the 8,167-metre Mount Dhaulagiri I in the Himalayas, two days after they went missing during their summit attempt. An aerial search team located the bodies at around the 7,600-metre point of the world's seventh-highest peak on Tuesday morning, according to Rakesh Gurung from the Department of Tourism (DoT). "We are holding a meeting tomorrow with the expedition organizers to discuss what to do with the bodies," Gurung told dpa. Pemba Jangbu Sherpa, managing director of I AM Trekking & Expedition, which organized the climb, separately confirmed the fatalities. "At 11 pm [0515 GMT] on October 6, they informed the base camp via radio that they were descending from 8,000 metres, saying it was too late for the summit push. That was the last we heard from them," Sherpa told dpa, adding that the group was climbing in alpine style without guide support.(dpa)
