Hot forecast of global temperature

May 10, 2024

Washington [US], May 10: Hundreds of the world's leading climate scientists predict global temperatures will increase by at least 2.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels, according to a recent survey by The Guardian newspaper.
The figure far exceeds the 1.5 degree Celsius targets agreed internationally to prevent the climate crisis from worsening.
Many scientists describe a pessimistic picture with famine, conflict and mass migration caused by heat waves, wildfires, floods and unusually strong storms.
Professor Gretta Pecl at the University of Tasmania (Australia) commented: "I think we are heading towards a major social disruption within the next five years." Discussing the reasons why countries fail to solve the climate crisis, many experts point to a lack of political will and the interests of industries as the main factors.
Professor Lisa Schipper at the University of Bonn (Germany) said: "The only source of hope I can see is that the next generation is very smart and politically savvy."
