Sep 16, 2024

Tokyo [Japan], September 16: Nikkei Asia reported yesterday, September 15, that the Japanese government and private sector will support the development of telecommunications infrastructure in Pacific island nations , starting with a data center and telecommunications project in Palau.
This is Japan's effort to increase its involvement in the South Pacific , an area with many undersea communication cables connecting East Asia, the United States and Australia.
Pacific island nations are using equipment from Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei for their onshore networks. However, the US claims that Huawei has ties to the Chinese military and poses a security risk. Huawei denies the allegations.
