Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ready to receive nomination papers for general elections

Harare [Zimbabwe], June 21: Zimbabwe's electoral body announced on Tuesday that it is ready to accept nomination papers from candidates, who wish to contest in the harmonized elections in Aug. 23.
The Nomination Courts will sit on Wednesday to accept applications from candidates for presidential, National Assembly and local authorities, the electoral body said.
At least 103 nomination centers have been opened countrywide for the candidates to file their papers.
"Some candidates have pre-submitted their nomination papers online," Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chief elections officer UtoileSilaigwana said.
"Nomination court will sit tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. local time (0800 GMT) and close at 16: 00 (1400 GMT). No nomination papers will be received after that," Silaigwana told a press conference in the capital.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is seeking re-election for a second five-year term, is set to launch the ruling ZANU-PF's manifesto and election campaign on Saturday in Chipinge, Manicaland Province.
The opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change on Tuesday confirmed that he had successfully pre-submitted his papers.
At least 6,598,523 voters are registered to vote in the general elections.
