Kolkata Horror: Doctors’ protests for justice continue despite meeting with Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata September 16 (ANI): Junior doctors in Kolkata continued their protests on Sept 16 against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. Protest was held near Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata as doctors chanted slogans demanding justice for ‘Abhaya’. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met with junior doctors on Sept 14 at her residence, with a delegation of 15 representatives, informed West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant. This comes after Mamata Banerjee visited the junior doctors' protest site in front of Swasthya Bhaban, where she assured the doctors that she would address their demands and make efforts to fulfil them. Addressing the protesting doctors, the West Bengal Chief Minister said that she was spending sleepless nights as the doctors were agitating on the road amid rains.
On September 12, the West Bengal Chief Minister had called a meeting to review the functioning of Health Facilities and improvement of safety, security and patient services in the State. Principals, Directors and Medical Superintendent cum Vice-Principal (MSVPs) of all Medical College and Hospitals of the state were invited to this meeting. All Commissioners of Police and District Magistrates and the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) of all districts were invited to this meeting.
